Full game CD doesn't have all the pig files?

Out of curiosity - what do I do if the full retail D2 cd doesn't have all of the pig files (either in the sow file, or installing the game to an old XP machine?)

Here's a screenshot of the installed game directory on that XP box; there are a lot of the required pig files not present?

Hmmm...that's really odd. I would guess your CD is corrupted in some way.

I had the same issue. What I found is that I had to install the game first. I used Dosbox for this. Once completed, I was able to find the needed files in the base Descent 2 folder.

Interesting, I see "GROUPA.PIG" and "WATER.PIG", but no others ... and those are the .pig files for the first eight levels ... I wonder if you have the Descent II: Destination Quartzon CD? That's a demo version with only the first eight levels. But you said it's the full retail CD, so if that's true, then I'm stumped. ???

im pretty sure xp isnt old enough, i have a literal stack of win98 systems just for descent troubleshooting and whatnot.  in fact they have 95 on them now, which seems to be better then 98.  luckily i havent had to pull them out in a while, the beta is looking great!

dosbox and vm's never really worked that well for me.

my guess is the reason those two pigs are there is so its would be more compatible with the shareware distribution system.  why make two different builds when you can just make one and delete some files?  ill see what my full D2 cd looks like after i dig it up.

it turns out mine doesnt have the pig files sitting out. its all packed into the .sow file.  i used 7zip to extract it.

Yes, the original game has all of the data in the .sow file. What was odd is that the OP said after extracting the .sow file he was still missing files.
