the usual, HOG not validated.
also suffers from the same problems (crashing PCX, HMP bugs) as the shareware version.

its this one...

Like the others, this won't be in the upcoming version. I am trying to find out if I can resove this otherwise or at least make it easier to manage.

might not be a bad idea to just create a DEMO.EXE for the shareware versions.

that'll give you something on the side to play with and keep the RETAIL.EXE clean Wink

No actually that's the opposite of what I want. Since the game content does not "indentify" itself properly it has to be a decision made by the game engine. So you need to decide whether you have Full, Full 1.5 (which is important, too since D1 1.5 has a bug in it's own content which the engine fixes), OEM (Saturn, Quartzon), then several different Shareware files AND then deciding between PC and Mac content. It doesn't help to distribute different binaries. The handling of these datas is important since it becomes more complex, the more versions we wanna support (independent if we use different biaries or not). The identification is just a secondary thing. And how to do it is the trick. I want to simplyfy both - handling and identification.

Well I can promise Rebirth will 100% support the Demo data provided on the Website. Which is basically one of th emost common versions you can find out there. So... why?

100%?  really?  Tongue  Wink

current demo data isnt representitive of what DXX-R can really do.
it looks and plays like ass (IMO) ~ it aint impressing noone, might even be turning some ppl away.

it doesnt take me long to make this stuff. it's just something i want to do.
they'll prolly both be pre-validated, you wont have to do a thing.

Okay the demo supports only 7/4 levels but how isn't that showing that DXX-Rebirth can play Descent/2?
Yes you could probably build some show levels but since the demo data only contains that many textures, you can't show everything anyways without making people buy the full version - which is USD 5,99 FOR BOTH GAMES on gog.com I might add?

if its that cheap why bother to support demo data at all? Wink

na, my point is better quality demo versions.
they wont be new levels or anything like that.
just standard 3 level demos in hires with properly working pcx, hmp and sfx.
